Funny Election Stuff
I don’t know a huge amount about politics, but I do know what I think is funny.
Bailout
I understand the AIG bailout enough to know that that if it hadn’t happened, there would be a lot of fallout in many other financial areas that would affect many, many Americans. OK fine. I just thought of a couple of numbers that make me go “hmmmm.” One, the CEO who was in charge during the time AIG lost $20 billion was given a severance package in July when he resigned. $47 million dollars. I say go get that back from him. And just for fun (or frustration) I figured that that $85 billion bailout, if divided and given to each household in America, would give that each and every household over $800. For most American’s, that would really help. It would cover some insurance costs.

OK, I was bored
What’s this blog
OK, there are millions of blogs. This one is no different. I’m just like most of you reading this. A regular person trying to make it through the day. Worried about money. Trying to be good in my family. Interested in politics…but pretty much half way informed. Concerned with spirituality. Worried about money. Pretty much a nice guy type of person. Wanting to leave a legacy somewhere. The deal is, we all want to be “good” in our lives and most of us want to live without stress. And really, much of our stress comes from worry about money. Money to pay bills, for vacation, for kids or future kids & so we don’t have to worry about getting old and stuck dying away in a state assisted nursing home.
Most of us are one event away from poverty. One hurricane. One accident. One market drop. Most of us live from paycheck to almost paycheck. I know that we in America aren’t close to poverty like the rest of the world knows it. Man I know. I’ve been in the endless garbage dump outside Bogota, Columbia. I’ve handed out food to the poor in Honduras. I’ve build meager homes for people in the shanty towns of Mexico. Some of my friends have lived & worked in the slums in Kenya, Namibia, Angola. That’s extreme poverty. But to survive with a family in the USA, to pay for a home and food and transportation and school ($300 + to rent books for a 9th grader), it takes more. And with one event, many of us could have no power, phone, insurance etc. I’m there. One event & I’ve got nothing to fall back on. We won’t starve or be homeless. Family is there to prevent that for me. But a family of 6 moving in with parents? I’ll say no more!
So! Here we are together because you’ve read this far. How about we collaborate? Commiserate? Commemorate? Coagulate! Yeah! Let’s help stop some bleeding. Maybe your thoughts will help me or other readers. Maybe your encouragement posts will help someone who’s poor in spirit.
Almost Poor. But not yet.
The Dakota
250,000 miles is a lot! Kids I know want to use my truck for an annual car smash, but it just keeps running. Poor guys can’t be too proud. The missing tailpipe & rusted muffler gets me questions all the time about the glass packs!
